Participation at Workshop "Re-/Lektüren. Praktiken des 'Wieder & Wider' in der Theaterwissenschaft", Vienna

9.–11. Januar 2025
Institute for Theater Studies, University Vienna

The research workshop connects selected works of PhD candidates and early-postdocs that are part of the German Association for Theater studies. And we are happy to announce that Felipe dos Santos Boquimpani was one of the chosen candidates!

The thematic focus of the workshop is on theater studies re-/readings. The aim is to take a close and critical look at artistic approaches, theatrical phenomena, theoretical concepts and/or proven methods of the subject, to question, rethink or develop them; but also to reflect on the practices of “again & against” in one’s own research or to put them in perspective in terms of the history of the subject:

At which levels of theater studies research is or was it worthwhile to repeat, intensify or deconstruct readings?
To what extent do individual or repeated re-readings shape or have shaped the discourse of the discipline? Which hegemonic perspectives, discursive or aesthetic posits deserve renewed attention, special visibility or even revision? Are there texts or artistic works that we should discuss again, more closely or differently? Which theoretical traditions and cultural discourses could be tapped into, utilized and tested for theater studies research in the first place through re-reading?
To what extent can re-/readings dynamize strategies of canon formation? But also: how do theatrical phenomena themselves test a ‘again & again’? And what characterizes practices of re-reading and re-turning (praxeological, aesthetic, cultural)? In this sense, the workshop should not only work with a narrow, literature-centered concept of reading, but also operate in a broader sense with re-/undoing.
