Group Excursion to “¡Adelante!” Festival in Heidelberg

8.–10. Februar 2024
Heidelberg & Mannheim

From the 8th to the 10th of February, we took our first group excursion to Heidelberg to attend the Ibero-American theatre festival, ¡Adelante! hosted by the Heidelberg Theater and Orchestra. The festival featured productions from countries across Latin- and South America. We had the opportunity to see “La Luna en el Amazonas (The Moon in the Amazon)” presented by Colombian company Mapa Teatro; “Minga de una casa en ruines (Minga. Moving a dilapidated house)” performed by Ébana Garín Coronel from Chile; “Soliloquio”, written and performed by Argentinian artist Tiziano Cruz and also “Espíritu (spirit)”, presented by the Chilean company Teatro Anónimo. While in Heidelberg, we also visited the Heidelberg Thingstätte, a historical amphitheatre built during the Nazi German State, primarily intended to be used for propaganda events but which in recent times has become a protected cultural monument. On this excursion, we also stopped in Mannheim to visit the Kunsthalle Mannheim, were we took in works such as William Kentridge’s famed 5-channel video installation, The Refusal of Time, which explores the intricate themes of time and space, as well as the legacies of colonialism and capitalism. Last but not least, we also had a visit to RomnoKher, the House for Sinti and Roma culture in Mannheim where we saw a temporary photo exhibition on Black victims of the Nazi regime.
